The words of a sound (How does a sound move, how does a body sound?)

Stadsmagazijn | Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen

In deze performance onderzoeken we de wisselwerking tussen klank en woord.

The link between music and text will be explored in this performance, as well as how each can influence and being influenced by the other. Using a special "language" of acoustic and vocal gestures, we hope to capture the profound level of connection and communication between performers. How a word or a poem can be converted into sound and how sonic gestures can trigger stories are of great interest to us.

We will try through music to give new significance to words, going beyond them, and investigate their texture, rhythm, and form via both composed and spontaneous sections.

The performance will combine compositions and improvisations creating a conversation between the musicians and the actor. The repertoire represents a broad spectrum of clarinet literature, beginning with Poulenc’s Sonata for Two Clarinets, which captures the quintessential French style, and extending to a minimalist exploration of the clarinet’s timbre through compositions by Reich and Riley, reflecting our artistic identity.
Improvisation will function as a connective tissue, combining various works and generating an organic flow in which sound and text continuously inform one another.
